Should I File A Claim?
One of the biggest questions we always come across as a company is, do I file a claim?
People don't want their premiums to go up.
How much does it actually cost to fix this?
What's the extent of the damage?
One of our big tips is to call your agent.
Don't call your adjuster. Don't call the main national carrier.
Call the person who sold you your policy and ask for their advice.
The reason being is, the second you call the carrier and it's not your agent, they may identify you as someone who's thinking about filing a claim or in other terms, thinks they can get money out of the carrier for repair.
So it may not happen tomorrow, it may not happen in six months, but there's plenty of stories like, “I never filed a claim. I only called and then my premium went up a few percentage points.”
We'll take a look at it. We'll give you our best advice.
They called their agent and their agent says, “Hey, I have a company I trust”. There's situations where we go into homes and they file the claim. The damage is $1,200, their deductible is $2,000.
Let the dust settle. Don't overreact. Call your agent once there's no more damage occurring. Just get some advice, talk to a professional. See what it is.
